Carbon Neutrality and the Environment
AmazingUniverse.com Inc. and the WineRackStore.com is a global company based in the USA. We manufacture and distribute wine racks and wine related products currently in USA, China and Canada. We have initiated a program whose goal is to ensure that our products and services will be as earth friendly as practically possible.
It has to be recognized that this is an ongoing process and must be tied to doable actions. Indeed, we are taking steps to ensure that our business will help to reduce Green House gases. We are deeply committed to this end and that we "walk the walk and not just talk the talk".
Here is a listing of our goals and action steps, to help reduce our carbon footprint, and increase the sustainability of our products.
Goal:
Ensure that our logs come from only sustainable forests and plantations.
Action step:
We have on-going discussions with our suppliers and appropriate government agencies, gaining their promise that all logs are from sustainable forests.
Goal:
When practical replace our machinery and equipment with the most energy efficient possible.
Action Step:
Whenever we replace or purchase new machinery one of our prime considerations is the amount of energy it uses and only those that are the most efficient are purchased.
Goal:
Recycle wherever possible all unused paper, cardboard, plastics, glass and metal.
Action Step:
We recycle approximately 90% of all recyclable items. Our recycling efforts have been recognized by the local recycling office and they have been very supportive of our efforts.
Goal:
Whenever possible we use environmentally responsible processes and products in the production of our products.
Action Step:
We have an ongoing examination of our processes to ensure that we reduce as much as possible waste and we also look at new technology to replace harmful processes. As an example, in 2008, we switched from solvent based stains and lacquers to water based. Not only does this improve the working environment of our employees but this has significantly reduced our contribution to greenhouse gasses.
Goal:
Use sustainable energy.
Action Step:
We are actively seeking the sustainable low impact energy sources. We have switched to bio-diesel in some of our equipment. However replacing our electricity with wind and solar power is currently very expensive. We are monitoring local availability and changes in technology that may reduce the costs of sustainable energy.
Goal:
Commit funds based upon a percentage of our sales to the planting of trees.
Action Step:
Trees are the most effective and practical way to sequester carbon. We are in contact with both private and public land owners in the USA and Canada so that we can contribute to the reforestation of areas. We are hoping that there will be a formal agreement between the stakeholders in 2009.
Goal:
To become Carbon Neutral.
Action Step:
We are very proud to announce that we became Carbon Neutral. This was accomplished by our continuous efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and by the purchase of Carbon Offsets. If you would like to learn how to offset your carbon footprint, please visit www.OffsetCarbonFootprint.org.
There is only one Earth. Our success and our children's future is tied to our ability to improve the environment in which we all live.
