For some readers, ‘Edelweiss’ is a song from ‘The Sound of Music’. Our family favored a deli by the same name when we lived in Richmond, B.C. There are tour companies, pubs, and also wines called ‘Edelweiss’ too.

I know it seems early, but I’m starting to plan what I’ll make for the Valentine’s Day Dessert Auction at our church. They’re raising money for a youth mission trip to Mexico, so chocolate chip cookies just won’t do.

When the owner at Recline Ridge Winery told me their fortified Ridgeport was better than chocolate I was skeptical. Since she assured me that she really likes chocolate I was willing to give it a whirl at the tasting bar. What did I have to lose?
