New Zealand Wine

New Zealand gets a mention here, not because I’m going or anything (though it’s a dream), but because it’s summer there. While we’re hosting winter festivals in North America this coming month, you still have time to book tickets and get to the antipodes for some serious fun.

January Decanter Re-launch

Decanter Magazine is re-launching itself with a make-over for January 2011. If you are familiar with this publication then you will notice some changes in the New Year and, apparently, readers will be happy.

Elements of South African Wine

If you like martinis you may already know about Elements in Las Vegas. Situated in the Spanish Trail area of the city, they host a quarterly dinner. Their next one, slated for January 24th, will explore the contents of the South African section on their wine rack. Attend from 6-9:15 pm to taste these offerings [...]

Join a Winter Camp

Camping is fine for a day or so with a comfortable foamy beneath my back and good weather outside. Our most recent experience took us to Drumheller National Park in summer (north of Calgary). It was July. Suddenly, our beautiful sunshine gave way to a huge rain storm with thunder and lightning. We hardly slept [...]

Winter Festival of Wine

Sun Peaks Resort is a haven for skiers and also attracts wine lovers. In particular, if the January blues start to bring you down, think about taking at trip there, north of Kamloops, between January 15th and 23rd.

Oregon Festival

January looms, and with it, winter festivals such as the Oregon Wine, Food and Brew Fest. Held at the Oregon State Fair and Expo Grounds, you can look forward to this event coming January 28th and 29th (Friday and Saturday).

New York, New Year

At the other end of the country from Napa is New York with its beautiful and growing wine industry. There will be plenty of ways to celebrate New Year there, several providing a touch of winter romance too.

New Year’s Eve in Napa Valley

It may not be too late to plan New Year’s Eve if you live near Napa Valley. There are plenty of things going on down there, at locations where you know the wine racks will be overflowing with good Chardonnay and Merlot.

Wine Rack Store Christmas Surprises

This writer at the Wine Rack Store considers herself stunned this Christmas. The big deal for me has always been that December 25th is my birthday, which means, essentially, I’ve only aged once or twice in the last 18 years since getting married. There is something of a challenge to the topic for my beloved [...]

New Cocktail? From the Wine Rack Store

I think I invented a new cocktail. Nothing spectacular,  mind you. Chances are someone will e-mail saying they made one like this once and they called it a Shangri-la something or other, any exotic name better than my Citrus Swish (we’ll call it that for now. I haven’t decided for sure).
